The challenge

At Qualabs, an early version of CMAF HAM UI already existed a tool for inspecting and editing video manifests (HLS/DASH). It worked as a proof of concept and stopped there: no user-friendly interface, no thought-out workflows, and no effective way to edit manifests. The goal was to turn it into a real second version the team could rely on day to day.

The solution

I redesigned the UI from scratch around the flow a user actually follows: upload, analyze, edit, export. I added modern visual components that organize complex information manifest structures with multiple nested levels without making it feel overwhelming.

Key features

• Optimized upload: drag & drop or manual selection of .mpd / .m3u8 files, with instant validation
• Structured visualization: a logical tree of Presentations → Selection Sets → Switching Sets → Tracks
• Inline editing: a pop-up to modify key properties (language, resolution, codecs, duration)
• Multi-export: simultaneous generation of HLS and DASH manifests from the same structure

Result

The new UI turned the prototype into a robust, accessible tool noticeably more intuitive than its previous version. It was well received by the video community, was presented at DEMUXED 2024 in San Francisco, drove increased engagement on GitHub, and served as a featured demo at MonteVIDEO Tech Summer Camp 2024.
